Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer Review

Pedometers are great to monitor your daily exercise and help you increase it by walking more.  The Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer is slightly more expensive than some other pedometers but has many more features than basic units. One big advantage is that it can be placed in a pocket or purse so you can keep it with you at all times to monitor your steps. It has a large LED display with separate screens for minutes walked and steps taken so you can always have the information within easy reach. It displays seven days of history but keeps a 42 day history in memory which you can upload data to your PC with the included software. It uses a lithium battery that will last about six months. It doesn’t have an automatic off switch however so you’ll need to turn it off each night if you want to conserve battery power. It sells for around $33 at Amazon.

There are over 1000 reviews of the Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer at Amazon with 744 (70%) giving it the highest rating of five stars. 182 (17%) gave it four stars and just 12% gave it 3 stars or less. Clearly the majority of users are very satisfies with this pedometer. users found it to be accurate when worn on the belt or placed in a purse or pocket.

Quote from customers ‘This is an accurate pedometer in terms of counting steps and estimating distance.’ and ‘I have really enjoyed using this pedometer in that I can slip it into my pocket in the morning and then look at my step count for the day’. The software is easy to use and people also liked the auto-reset which zeros the steps at midnight. One person stated that it ‘helps keep you honest’.

To use the software you just attach the unit to your PC (software is for Windows 7, XP, Vista,2000) by the USB port and it automatically downloads and puts your data into charts. The software also interfaces with Omron’s blood pressure unit. The latest software is available at Omron Health Management Software. Click the chart below to see a bigger image.

Overall the Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer is well liked and deemed good value for money. The biggest advantage in our opinion is the ability to drop it into a purse or pocket and take it with you rather than having to attach it to your belt. This makes it much easier to use on a daily basis when at work or going about your daily life. The software is excellent and can also be used with Omron blood pressure monitors.
